Problems With Shooting

As I am the main actor and the Director of my groups short film i have found it really difficult to act and direct at the same time. As a group we have come to the decision that to get the most out of the film we have to re-structure a few things. We have changed the main character this will now be played by one of my friends who has more experience in acting as he did GCSE Drama. Also the roof scenes will now be shot at my house instead of at Nathan's house, it is more convenient. Shooting everything in the same place will shorten the odds of continuity errors.

What Is A Short film And Where Is It Found?

Short film is a terminology originally from the North American film industry, this term refers to films between 20- and 40 minutes. The definition refers to much shorter films in Europe, Latin America and Australia, a short film can be anything from 1 minute to 15 minutes in the New zeland film industry. The North American Interpretation focuses primarily on characters whereas the european and autralian interpretation tends to concentrate on visual drama and plots and twists.

Short film is often interpreted as being a trailer for a feature length film recently, music videos can also be considered as being a short film. Your more likely to see a short film at the start of a film at the cinema these days as television as a very awkward place to slot a short film into. Television scheduling often works in 30 minute or hour slots so a short film that is only 5 minutres long would disrupt the hole schedule and they would have to fill it with something else.Youtube has become increasingly popular for exhibiting short film in recent years

(Slip Of The Tongue)

(Inside)

Example of Short film (Slip Of The Tongue)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5386dnAAHdY&feature=related

I feel this short film is more like the project me and ma group are trying to attempt, in the fact that dialogue is initiated through voice overs and not actual conversation. I feel that something like this would be easier to do in contrast to the first short film (Inside) because there are only two actors in this piece whereas there is a hole team of actors in Inside. I like the use of two shots in this piece and i feel that this shot aswell as the point of view shot could be the most common shots in my groups piece.
This short film was designed to feel like a visual poetry slur. Its about a young man who tries to chat up a young lady at the bus stop who then goes into a rant about her ethnic background and societies perception of girls on a hole. This stemmed from the young man simply complimenting the young ladys make up, well so he thought. This turned out in the end to have changed the way he sees the world.

An example of a short film "Inside"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjTOs1L3SBg

I feel this short film links well with some of the ideas/ main concept me and my group have been discussing recently. I really like the idea of voices in the mans head and feel my group, can incorporate something like this in our piece with good effect.
Inside is about a man who is in a mental institution and is being assessed to see whether or not he is eligible for the chance to be let out. He suffers from split personality disorder and has trouble of controlling them all they seem to take over his hole mind causing him to say things and do things that he might not want to do. His personalities are played by actual characters and it gives you a greater understanding of how intense this problem could have on someone. He has developed a part of his personality which helps to calm him down this is played by a doctor. It is very effective and helps him to get on top of all of his personalities and stick to just one. He then gets interviewed by an actual doctor and in the end seems to have a clear state of mind.
